When an emergency happens in your city, you want to be able to have fast and easy access to transportation. Dollar vans are a great option for this because they can move people throughout the city at any time of day. They are low cost, less crowded, and easier to clean than larger buses or subway cars. And, with the introduction of electric vehicles entering the commuter van market, they're becoming much more eco-friendly. During a pandemic, dollar vans are perfect for public transit. Here's why.
They can get people to where they need to go quickly.
During citywide shutdowns, government-run transportation services tend to suffer. When there haven’t been enough buses or trains for the number of city-goers that need to get around, privately owned dollar vans have historically filled in the gaps. If you have a limited amount of transportation resources, like during an emergency such as a pandemic, these vehicles are able to service commuters and pick up the slack.
They’re less crowded than public transportation.
It's not uncommon for buses and subway cars to become overcrowded, and during a pandemic, this can be increasingly problematic. Dollar vans can comfortably seat anywhere from 20-25 people and, because they aren't particularly designed for standing room, allow for a safe, secure, and roomier travel option for urban travelers.
Dollar van rides cost less than Uber, Lyft, and Yellow Cabs.
Public transportation and classic ride-shares are becoming more expensive. Not only are dollar vans low-cost for commuters (historically, as low as $2), they also specialize in servicing communities where train lines, buses, and cabs don’t. In the past, dollar vans operated through cash-only transactions. However, mobile applications like Dollaride are allowing dollar van drivers and riders to eliminate the hassle of paying with cash, creating a more seamless, hassle-free transportation experience.
Over the course of the recent pandemic, we’ve learned the best way to get around is by using transportation that isn’t crowded, is easy to clean, and doesn’t cost too much. Not only are dollar vans inexpensive, but with electric vehicles entering the commuter van market, it won’t be long before they are eco-friendly. This makes for clean and cheap public transportation -- perfect during a pandemic.
